Starting out my French-to-English translation efforts! I’ll be writing this up and sending it to the designer so more knitters can make these awesome mitts.

I don’t usually use four DPNs for a project this size, but I’m trying to follow the pattern exactly. Made starting out a bit awkward, but that’s just because I’m not used to it.

The picot hem: looks super classy and PRO and is beautiful and a fucking pain in the ass.

Regarding skp versus ssk - DO SKP. FO’ REALS. Slip knitwise, knit, psso; it looks far neater than the ssk versions I did.

Just waiting on the designer to send me the directions for the thumb, and then I’m confident enough in my translation to send it off before I knit the second mitt. SO EXCITED

Yup, I derped on my first attempt at the cable translation, so I’ma have to make another pair. They’re still very pretty, though.

Note to future Sandra knitters: despite my notes that I derped, the translation available through the pattern is correct. French cabling directions are somewhat ambiguous and I had originally interpreted them as mock cables rather than true cables, which doesn’t end up looking different, but I wanted to be sure I’d translated the pattern as accurately as possible.

I find mock cables to make a tighter fabric than true cables, and I really like the fit of these, so if you prefer to do mock cables, that’s definitely a thing you could substitute on this pattern.
