I love the looks of the regency era and altered this pattern for a vest to have cap sleeves and a higher, draw-string neckline. I also lengthened the jacket to fall below my hips. I got the crochet cotton thread on sale at hobby lobby (when I lived in Oklahoma City area) for only $5! (That’s $1 per ball). I bought my dress at Ross for $19.99 and added some lace to the hem to lengthen it somewhat. All together my dress cost me $25! :) We saved money on the wedding so we could spend it on our honeymoon in Rarotonga, Cook Islands, a 3-hour flight from New Zealand. :)
On the morning of my wedding…I started to press my dress…and honestly I’m not an expert at ironing! I somehow managed to burn a hole in the back of my dress just above the hemline! I was horrified! What do I do now?? Well, I decided to stay calm and kicked my bridesmaids out of my room before they saw what I’d done! I requested some private time and sat down with my crochet hook and made a lace rose and sewed it over the hole! When I was at the altar saying my vows, some ladies in the audience noticed the rose and thought it was an “on purpose” special touch and were looking for more roses on my skirt!
