Notes

i used a 16-stitch pattern repeat denoted X below (it’s called “cascading leaves” from the reader’s digest ultimate sourcebook of knitting and crochet stitches). a very bare-bones explanation of how i knit this is written out below, mostly so i don’t forget. this project used exactly one skein of yarn and knit up quickly.

  • co 100 stitches, joining in the round on circular or double-pointed needles.

  • note: this fits loosely and comfortably over the head. for a more snug, turtleneck feel, i’d leave out one pattern repeat, casting on only 80 stitches. as for the height, finished it measures about 20 cm tall (8”). add or remove repeats of the motif to suit.

  • knit 3 rows

  • row 1: p2, follow pattern X, p2 (placed marker). repeated 5 times to make 100 stitches total.

  • row 2-43: follow pattern X motif five complete times (each repeat is 8 rows) with the p2 in between, adjusting instructions as written in the book to account for knitting in the round vs. straight needles. total of 43 rows to this point.

  • knit 3 rows

  • bind off loosely

and with that, i have endless admiration for pattern writers who make it sound much clearer than i just did! ask me if you’re trying this and need deciphering.
