Machine knit.
The basic stitch pattern involves moving round stitches that were in and out of work.
I started and ended with icord fringe.
I first knitted on a bunch of four stitch icord tassels with two unused needles between each block of icord. Then I knit about four rows across these stitches -- still leaving the intermediate two stitches out of work.
I then split up each block of four stitches, transferring two to the left and two the right, and taking the two middle stitches out of work. I knit 8 rows in the new configuration, and did the same thing to switch it back. The only stitches I didn’t move were the ones on each edge.
When I reached the desired length, I made sure to stop in the middle of a set of 8 rows when I had the scarf evenly divided into groups of four, and then I knit those groups of four off in icord fringe again.
The fabric is lacy enough to not curl to a huge degree, but you will get some curling in from the edges if you don’t block it pretty hard.
