Incorporating squares from Great American Aran Afghan, Great American Afghan and Great North American Afghan

For most squares using seed stitch for borders and casting on 61 stitches

  1. Patt Tanton Hewitt (GAAA Page 42) US 6 needles 1/23/14-1/26/14

  2. Kathy Zimmerman (GAA #8) US 7 needles 1/26/14-1/28/14

  3. Stephanie Gildersleeve (GNAA #3) US 7 needles After blocking, this square ended up about 1/2” short 1/28/14-1/30/14

  4. Meredith K Morioka (GAAA Page 8) US 5 needles 1/30/14 Had to frog the entire block after 20 rows… “work row 1 of chart A, row 1 of chart B, row 21 of chart A”. Since I knit left-handed, the border is backward from the original project in the book. Did 4 repeats instead of 5. 1/31/14-2/3/14

  5. Marian Tabler (GAAA Page 6) US 7 needles 2/4/14-2/7/14

  6. Jay Campbell (GAAA Page 18) US 6 16” circular needle 2/8/14-2/9/14

  7. Barbara McIntire (GAAA Page 44) US 8 needles 2/10/14-2/12/14

  8. St. Brigid US 6 & 7 needles. Thanks to surlygirl for the suggestion. Cables are from the St. Brigid sweater by Alice Starmore. CO 61 stitches with size 6 needles; knit 6 rows seed stitch; increase 10 stitches evenly on last row & change to size 7 needles. Starting with row 1 of each, work 3 seed stitches, Chart B, Chart D, Chart B, and 3 seed stitches. Work according to pattern (not repeating rows 1 & 2 of chart D) until Chart D has been worked 3 times, then work row 3 once more. Change to size 6 needles. Work 6 rows seed stitch, decreasing 10 stitches evenly across the first row. BO. The most challenging part of this square was to figure out the chart and rework it for a left-handed knitter… I had to frog about 30 rows and begin again and again… 2/13/14-2/15/14

  9. Irish Moss US 6 & 7 needles. Thanks to surlygirl for the suggestion. Pattern is from the Irish Moss Sweater. CO 61 stitches with US 6 needles. Work 6 rows seed stitch, increasing 8 stitches evenly across the last row (69 sts). Switch to US 7 needles. Starting with row 1 of each chart, work 3 seed stitches, 1 reverse SS, chart C, chart A, chart D, chart A, chart E, 1 reverse SS, and 3 seed stitches. Work according to pattern until chart D has been worked 4 times. Switch to US 6 needles; work 6 rows seed stitch, decreasing 8 stitches evenly across the first row. BO. 2/15/14-2/17/14

  10. Julie H. Levy (GAAA Page 4) Cast on 61 stitches with size 6 needles; 6 rows seed stitch; change to size 7 needles, increase evenly to 76 stitches. 2/17/14-2/20/14

  11. Ada Fenick (GAAA Page 46) 6 rows seed stitch 2/20/14-2/22/14

  12. Dagmara Berztiss (GAAA Page 48) 2/22/14-2/24/14

  13. Wisteria Twining Vine Cast on 61 stitches; 6 rows seed stitch, increase 9 stitches evenly to 70 stitches; work 16 pattern rows 4 times and 6 more rows; work 6 rows seed stitch, decreasing 9 stitches on first row. Bind off. 70 stitches = 3 Seed Stitches, 2 Reverse SS, 5 Eala Bhan, 50 Twining Vine, 5 Eala Bhan, 2 Reverse SS, 3 Seed Stitches Bobbles and Cables and Knots, Oh My… Not recommended for those who dislike bobbles 2/24/14-2/27/14

  14. Hanna Burns CO 53 sts; 6 rows Seed Stitch with size 7 needles; increase 9 sts on 6th row to 62 sts; change to size 8 needles. Messed up a cable on chart D and had to frog back 12 rows… messed up again; I should have been done by now; need to pay close attention to those cables. 2/27/14-3/1/14

  15. Key and Knot CO 61 sts; 6 rows Seed Stitch with size 7 needles; increase 15 stitches evenly on last row to 76 stitches. 76 stitches = 3 Seed Stitches, 3 Reverse SS, 11 Chart 2, 42 Chart 1, 11 Chart 2, 3 Reverse SS, 3 Seed Stitch.
