Notes
  1. Cast on 68 stitches
  2. knit an inch or so of k2p2 ribbing (will need to sneak two increases into the first patterned row)
  3. Knit five repeats of the Diagonal Eyelet insert pattern. Leave out the extra ten stitches of border around each pattern repeat, but do start with k7 on 1, k6 on 3, etc. All even rows become knits since this is in the round.
  4. After three sets of the pattern (42 rows), finish the hat with a series of decreases using, e.g., spaced k2togs.
