Working the toe was a bit tricky, especially with magic loop. Things kept twisting. I gave up and got double-pointed needles, and it was still a big pain, but after ten tries I got on top of it. After working the toe, i.e., finishing the row of increases to 24 and then the purl of the 24, I switched to magic loop for the rest of the sock.

For the second sock, once I was oriented, I put the bottom of the sock in stockinette instead of garter. Once you split for the foot hole, this means knitting 6 garter, 12 stockinette, 6 garter, then turning, and of course half those rows you are knitting inside and necessary stitch switches.
