Notes
  1. Cast on 80 to circular needles and join, knitting in the round.
  2. An inch or so of k2p2 ribbing
  3. The spiral pattern, which has three rows: Row 1: purl the first stitch of the previous row, which should be a knit stitch. Then yo, slip 1, knit 1, psso, purl 2 until end of row Row 2: knit through back loop, knit, purl 2 Row 3: knit 2, purl 2

Every time I finished a Row 3 and started a Row 1, I was surprised and thought I messed up the offset, but it worked out.

This hat is about 10 sets of the three twist rows, and then an ad-hoc narrowing to the top, eventually switching to all p2tog. It’s a bit short and tight for a size 7½ adult head.

I’ve very pleased with the spiral ribbing, but not with the colors. I tried to put an off-black stripe in with the black, but wasn’t paying attention and so the stripe is too high and way too wide and I kind of hate it.
