All done. I hate it. It doesn’t fit AT all, even though I knit a size bigger than I needed. The button holes are WAY too far apart and gap and pull like mad. I might be able to save the entire sweater by pulling out the BO edge and fixing the button holes by dropping the stitches and redoing it. We’ll see.

No fix is going to make this thing fit. It’s going to be frogged.

I somehow managed to wrap my YOs wrong over the entire sweater. No idea why or how it happened. I’m so confused by it.

Using upcycled yarn from a J. Crew sweater.

I finally figured out what the issue was with this pattern - I had version 2.0 & the stitch counts were all wrong! Geez.

2/1 - Up to second button hole.
* I did a double YO k3tog buttonhole. On the next row, I knit the second YO through the back loop to tighten it.

2/3 - to YO increase row.

  • Re: the YO row. I tried spreading my YOs evenly over 220 sts (nothing made sense with the 219 listed for my size) - with that spacing (every 10 sts), I ended up with YOs on the sleeve increases and in really odd spots that would have been quite fugly. I pulled out the row and redid some math to get it better spaced. I also left off the ones on the sleeves this time. I split them over 24 sts on each part of the front (leaving an edge of 9 sts on the buttonhole side and 10 sts on the other side) - I then did 4 YOs spaced 6 sts apart. I didn’t do one on the arm side because it would have been right against the sleeve area (and I didn’t want too much drape on the front). Across the back I spaced my YOs evenly over 60 sts (6 YOs), there I did do a YO near both areas by the sleeves to give more movement across the back.

2/5 - 3rd button hole done.

2/6 - Cannot get the stitch count right for my lace. Urrrrrgh.

2/8 - After spazzing out most of the last few days, I pulled back the last 6 rows I had knit and counted everything to ensure I had multiples of 7 across the fronts, the sleeves, and the back, and magically, I did.
-Have to remember to put the buttonhole back in! (check)
Whew! Back into the lace with 2 rows down. About a million to go.

  • From the top to the base of the garter stitch I have 5 3/8”. 5 3/8 inches.

  • I ended up with 270 sts. I have 56 sts across my sleeve, 72 across the back, and 43 on each front. (43-8 for the button band is 35).

2/10 - split off sleeves earlier tonight. hoping to get some big chunks of this knit over the weekend.

2/11 - finished 3rd lace repeat. going much faster now that I’ve pretty much memorized it. I wish the purl rows went faster, but the YOs make that hard.

2/13 - Done with 8th lace repeat (7th body). It’s going to take A LOT more to get through the body, but I’m still chugging along. I might do an arm randomly just to keep myself going through the week if I get too bored with the body.

2/14 - 8th body repeat done. Not too much knitting time today. I snuck a row in whenever I could.

2/20 - Finished 13th body lace repeat. This is dragging. Zzzz.

2/21 - I’m really concerned about this being able to actually button up over my boobs! Ugh. Not sure what to do.
- I put half the sweater on waste yarn and put clips in it to close the buttonholes. It fits, but just barely. I’m really hoping that the blocking adds some room.
Finished through 19th body repeat tonight. It’s almost ready for the garter stitch edge. I think maybe another inch or two of lace should do the trick. If I can get enough done tomorrow at knit night, I should have the body finished tomorrow! Yay!

2/22 - Body is done! Yes!

2/23 - No knitting today, but I did buy buttons!

2/24 - Started on one of the sleeves. My YOs on the sleeves look much larger than the ones on the body and I have NO idea why. Oh well. It will all block out the same (I hope). Not sure how long I want to make the sleeves. I’ll be trying it on a lot as I go.

2/25 - I’m about 6 rows into the lace on the arms, and it looks COMPLETELY different than the body. It’s not good. Not sure how to fix it - maybe knitting them flat or swapping to a US 7 for the sleeves.

2/27 - Pulled out the wonky, ugly ass sleeve and am starting over on straights. I had a bit of tantrum when I dropped a few stitches and threw the sweater, yarn, and needles across the room. I think a break from this sweater is needed.

3/1 - I have NO idea what I did on the body of the sweater that made my YOs so very tiny. I’m clueless, but I can’t seem to replicate it on the sleeves. After 6 attempts to get them started, I’m done. I am going to do the sleeves in garter and make my life 1000x easier. I pulled out the 4 rows of lace from before the split, and am redoing them in garter. A bit time consuming, but the sleeves will fly in the round after this.

3/6 - Didn’t get a chance to work on this for a couple of days due to actually having to do work for my real life. I’m getting ready to bind off the first sleeve! Yay! I’m hoping I can get this finished up very soon!

3/8 - Working on the second sleeve. I’m hoping to finish this up on Friday evening. That’s going to be my best bet… Who knows.

3/11 - Trudging through the garter stitch on the sleeves. I need 37 garter ridges to finish! I can do it! I can do it!
Hurray! Knitting is done. I only had two ends to weave in since I had done the others when I finished the first sleeve. It’s taking a long bath in the sink now. The lace opened up a bunch as soon as it hit the water.

3/12 - Blocked the hell out of the sweater and it’s still quite small across the body. :( I’m going to block more since it’s still damp.

Buttons are all sewn on. It doesn’t fit at all. It looks terrible.

3/15 - Pulled out the BO edge on the body last night and picked out the stitches where the buttonhole are. I now have about 20 inches of live stitches to re garter. That should be fun. Then I figure out some sort of closures.

4/2 - After letting it sit for a while so I wouldn’t set it on fire, I’m picking up stitches again. I’m really, really hoping I can get this done tonight/this weekend so it’s out of the way.
About 1/3 done. Tedious work.

4/10 - Almost done picking up all the stitches. I have about 2 more inches to go.

4/14 - All done with the repair. It’s going for another soak now… but I don’t know if that will hide the obvious spots where the stitches were fixed. This thing might be getting frogged by the end of the week.
