Notes

Decided this was appropriate knitting to do while watching our Edmonton Oilers beat those peskie San Jose Sharks! Im knitting this for Isaac’s birthday.

Finished the knitting last night.
For the teeth I tried single strand but they looked a bit thin next to the body, I ended up knitting them double strand on 6 mm needles. I need to get some foam for the fins and tail, although the yarn is very firm, it’ll keep things nice and flat. Skipped the pelvic fin, i don’t have enough yarn left and he looks fine without.
I think I might go with large googly eyes, and glue them to a button so I can sew them on tightly
Great knit for tv watching and grows really quickly. Our Oilers beat the Sharks, they’re playing the Ducks tonight…..don’t see myself knitting any of those!

Got some great buttons from Fabricland. I’ll sew them in place, then glue the googly eyes into the holes on top of the buttons. Hoping the dip in the button will protect the eye from getting knocked or picked off….but will send a few more eyes along just incase!

Fitting his teeth. I found if I placed the first tooth centre bottom then the gap between the bottom 3 teeth didn’t close up. I’d originally knitted 19 teeth but unpicked 2 so they laid flat. I pinned the first and last tooth in place then folded in half and pinned the top tooth by the nose in place then finished pinning the teeth all the way round.
Fun project the knitting part went quickly but the sewing took a while. DH cut out the foam for me, I got a 24”x24”x1” piece from Foam King on the south side. It was cheaper than Michaels. I have left overs so could have bought less. I think I would have preferred 1/2” foam but couldn’t find any.
I should have sewn the pectoral fins up higher to allow him to get into the sleeping bag with the fins either side and eyes on the top, but I’d already double stitched them on and they’re there to stay!…the tail won’t stand straight up anyway… so it’ll lay side ways as he lies in it which is fine.
All sewn together just the embroidery left to do.
Found some cute sharky pj’s to go with it.
Finished embroidering and didn’t want him to look too cross and scary, Isaac’s just turning 2!
