For Josephine’s first birthday.
I had to unpick as the sizing is really off for the 18 months size. I read other project notes and it seems people knitting this size had the same problem. The width is correct but it’s so long about a size 3 years. I was hoping I could just shorten it before I joined the sleeves but I had to shorten throughout to keep it in proportion. These are the mods I made I wanted the cardi to be 12” long, my gauge was 6 rows per inch.
Sleeves. Cast on and knit the cuff. Knit 9 rows in main colour on the 10th row knit one, then make 1 left, then knit to the last but one stitch make one right.(I used this instead of the KFB increase which really shows.)
Knit 12 rows increase on the 13 th row. Knit 12 rows increase on the 13 th row. Continue knitting to 8”.
Body knit to 8” instead of 9 1/2”. Join sleeves to body, counting the next row (purl row) as 1, knit 7 rows. 8th row decrease as pattern. Knit 5 rows decrease on the 6th as pattern. Knit 5 rows decrease on 6th. Purl one row it should measure 11”. Knit 6 rows of neckband 12”. For the button band I was only able to pick up 36 stitches. For the button holes I knit 2, yo k2tog, knit 4 yo k2tog, knit 4yo k2tog….6 button holes in total. Used Elizabeth Zimmerman sewn cast off.
Finally finished and blocking March 1st. It’s a bulky stiff knit so I soaked the cardi completely and it’s much softer now. Its a cute design.
Yarn held double to reach gauge.
I think if I knit this again I would start the yoke decreases earlier so it would curve over her shoulders better and maybe add an extra inch to the width.
