Notes

3/7/10 - There is just no way at all I can get the gauge called for in this pattern and still have an acceptable fabric. The pattern is written for worsted weight yarn but when I did a search for the gauge in the patterns tab, most of the patterns that came up were bulky weight…and there’s absolutely no mention of doubling the yarn. So, I’m just going to have to make some modifications. The pattern calls for 16 sts over 4” with a US7 needle, and with a US10 I’m getting 19sts over 4”…and I don’t want the fabric to be any more open than it is. So I’m going to drop back to a US8, which gave me 20 sts over 4” and add 16 sts to the cast on (since the crown decreases are done over 8 sts) for a total of 85 sts.

3/8/10 - And done! Well, except for the button--I need to find the perfect one. Turns out my husband feels the same way about buttons on hats for boys as he does for cloches…so I have to try to get a button that screams boy to prove him wrong! :-) I really like how the hat came out despite the changes I had to make to make it work.

3/13/10 - The button! Love the button! It’s so cute and so funny--perfect for a little baby boy.
