I liked this cloche from the first time I saw it linked in a forum post. I’m not sure I can carry off a cloche, but I love the style, so what the heck?
2/12/10, 9:00 pm, EST - Cast on! Okay, actually I’m still swatching. The pattern is written for a US4, but I’m up to a US9!
2/14/10 - Holy schnikies. It’s taken me two days to knit the brim…and I’m not quite done yet, because I’m not quite sure how the joining row works. I mean, I know technically how to join my knitting in the round, but the working yarn doesn’t seem to be in the right spot. I’ll figure it out. At any rate, my downfall seems to be actually watching the Olympics while knitting…or trying to, at any rate!
2/17/10 - Annnnnnd…done! I actually finished knitting on the 16th, but stayed up to find the perfect button in my stash. As you can see, I had a lot to chose from. Then it took me forever to figure out how it was attached. The pictures in the pattern that show the brim pinned up at the opening really didn’t show both sides of the opening well, and I couldn’t get a good look at it on any of the project pages. Finally, I took my best guess which was to fold up one side at a long angle and attach a button, and then fold the other side just at 45 degrees and tack down. I sewed the button on permanently because I wasn’t a big fan of the rev st side at all and would be unlikely to want to reverse the cloche…or to move the opening to the back to accommodate a ponytail--no ponytail here!
Although the brim kicked my butt I like the look of this pattern…enough that I’m going to change my other Ravelympics hat I have planned to this pattern and I want to see if I can figure out how to size it down to knit one for my 2-year-old with the yarn I have left (almost half the skein).
