2/23/10 - I’ve opted to change patterns for this project, which required a change in events. It’ll no longer be felted, so the Felted Freestyle isn’t applicable, but it will be a single skein project. And I’ll be casting on today, because the coordinating scarf I’m working on now is going a little too slowly; I’m not sure I can get it done in the 5 days I’ve got left!

2/23/10, 1715 - Cast on! Of course, my first attempt with the long tail cast on fell well short of enough yarn in the tail, so I pulled off about 100 sts and added twice as much yarn as I thought I’d need. Feel 3 sts short. Used the knitted cast on for the last 3--I’m not redoing this cast on again! I doubt the difference will be that obvious.

2/24/10 - Argh! I wish I knew what it was about Row 12 on the brim, but for some reason the stitch pattern always gets off at the end of the center section…and I can’t see it until I’m starting that section in Row 13 and find my knits and slips aren’t lining up properly. Last time I knit this hat I tinked back and reknit twice before it worked; this time there was no way I was wasting that time. It’s only the very last part of that section, so I whiped out my handy crochet hook and turned the knits into slips and the slips into knits. On to Row 14!

(later) This is going much better than that scarf (which I’m now going to modify anyway). I’ve got about 4 1/2” knit, so just another 1 1/2” before the decreases. Should finish up early tomorrow, then back to the scarf.
