Shall We Knit? in Kingsville, Ontario
June 19, 2010
Notes

At WWKIP Day, June 2010, I bought a “Sock Monster” kit that Shall We Knit offers with Heather’s pattern.

It’s a sneaky thing. Snuck right onto the needles.

I have a suspicion this “project” will just be ongoing, building monsters out of Koigu orphans until the place is full of them.

20100718: Monster the First finished at midnight. Just in time to be gifted to a wee kiddo on the 19th.
20100719: Monster the First was named MingMing by his new kiddo, and went home with one blue sock, and a promise of more monster-socks to come.

20100912: Monster the 2nd assembled this evening just after finding out friend’s new baby in hospital cuz he turned into a pumpkin. Monster the 2nd being delivered along with food for family to bring good knitting wishes to wee one. Current picture is of Monster the 2nd with the no-longer-orange baby.

20101205: Monster the Third is finished and hanging around with us for a bit, as no wee one has been in urgent need yet. Photos pending. If a 4th and 5th get done they might be holiday presents.

20110203: Monster the Third now at new home with nephew, and has been named Mr. Green. Mr. Green still has no socks, will work on those once Monster the 4th is done.

20110523: (or thereabouts) Monster the Fourth finished and assembled, and still residing with me as of May 31, pending a needful kiddo to adopt it. Monster the 5th is quite pink, and on the needles. By the way, that’s Monster the 4th having a tussle with Sudo, but they both came out of it fine.

20110714: Updates: monster the 4th homed with knitter friend’s new baby, leading to the discovery that these are great for even newborns - apparently the limbs are finger-size and great for that reflexive little grasp they’re born with!

Monster the 5th is knit but needs to be stuffed assembled, has blue eyes and will be shipped back to Fredericton for “Chewie”. Monster the 6th is also knit, has albino-pink eyes but needs stuffing/assembly.

20111012: Monster the 5th now safe in Fredericton with new kiddo Hannah. Monster the 6th, no photo yet, but is safe with Jack and much loved already - went out to breakfast with him last weekend.

20111128: Monster the 7th finished on Nov. 27th. Being held temporarily in case I need a Giftmas prezzie in a hurry (i.e., don’t get all the requests finished) but I have another kiddo waiting for one, too, so…

Monster the 8th casting on shortly…

20111221: Monster the 8th cast off and ready for stuffing and stitching. Had a request for this one, as Monster the 6th’s kiddo has a friend who is really coveting #6 but Jack doesn’t want to share. 20111222: Monster the 8th completed, photographed, and pocketed by husband for stealth delivery. 20130907: Photos 8 and 9 are of Monster the 7th who suffered a wound in an apparent laundry accident. Located enough spare yarn to reknit and graft the arm back.

20120109: Monster the 9th started, realized I was short on yarn, and improvised a pair of pants (permanent - bottom part of body in constrast). 20120127: First FO of the year. Picture still to come.

Feb 2012: monsters hibernating for a while as they’ve taken up a lot of my time.

Mar 2012: Monster the 10th may have the very beginnings of one limb on the needles, now…

20121009: Monster the 9th going to a home for an about-to-arrive new kiddo w/Corntea. Monster the 10th hasn’t really progressed, but needs to, as monster the 11th got its own project… because the recipient for that monster will be my own little monster, next March.

20130217: monster the 10th still awaiting assembly, but Monster the 11th is done and packed in the hospital bag, ready for new arrival. See the Widget Monster project for that one.

20130906: monster the 10th done and will be joining monster the 8th as 8th’s kid has a new sister who needs one too. Monster the 12th is a special commission “effigy” and currently in the plans, due Sept 30th.

20130907: Cast on the Effigy, semi-improvising with a top-down variation.
