Give this a try when you have time:

While re-reading old Vogue’s, I came across this purse handle pattern so I tried it. . This is a a great cable strip with much less effort than regular cable. I’m already thinking about many other applications for it. I tried picking up from it sideways, and 3 stitches in each side loop is a good rule of thumb. half a stitch in each row, and one stitch in from the edge continued all the way up the strip.

CO 7 stitches, knit 4 rows (st st).

Row 5 (RS): Knit 3, YO, K2tog., K2 Row 6 - 12 stockinette

Repeat rows 5-12 until piece is 20 eyelets long.

Make another strip, except first eyelet row is row 9 and subsequently every 8th row thereafter, for a total of 20 eyelets. Adjust number of rows each end so they’re the same length.

In other words, make an eyelet row every 8th row on each strip, with an offset of 4 rows for 2nd strip.

Right sides up, place strip 1 on top of strip 2 and lace/push strip 2 through eyelet. Tug on it until it lays straight. Continue doing this, always lacing bottom strip up through next hole of top strip. Make sure you don’t miss any holes.

Note: Making first eyelet hole on a different row of each strip ensures an even beginning when both strips are matched at the start.

Apply this formula when sewing/appliqueing, also.“

This has just enough stretch that if you make it long enough to go around your arm and seam the ends together (use provisional castons in this case so you can graft if preferred), it will stretch over the hand for a bracelet.

Update 5/15/16: I found a PDF of someone else’s writeup of this pattern that’s very complete: Faux Braided Necklace/Bracelet.

Added last 2 photos to show the process. I grafted 4 provisional ends together, but it’s equally fine to caston & bindoff normally, then seam them together.

Or another knitter cast two on together somehow, separating them after the first round. Not sure how she ended, but I’d probably hold both ends on yarn stitch holders, do all the in-and-out weaving, then 2-needle bindoff the pieces together. Then seam. Knitter’s choice!
