Leetle Baby Monkey to add to the Layette… :)

Little Monkey Toes & Monkey Stripey Hat

The pattern directions for attaching the mouth to the head are pretty vague. My first attempt looked like a duck bill! I modified the mouth a bit for my second attempt: I purled the seventh round of white yarn and then bound off purl-wise. This made it easier for the edge to fold under and be sewn more smoothly to the head. Also, mouth placement seems to work better if the center of the long edge makes a wider arc than at the ends -- more of a fat oval. I also used some red yarn, strung on the inside to pull in the mouth corners just a bit and then the same at the center, burying the yarn ends well inside the head to hide them. Gives the mouth a bit more expression, IMO.

As for the arms, I only increased to 21 sts -- less clubby looking to me. I also grafted the ends closed instead of binding off and sewing shut.

I also used some polyfill beads (for toys) in the bum of the body, the feet, and the “hands” to give these parts a bit of weight. Omitted them from the tail.

For the eyes, I used Knit Picks Palette in a dark charcoal heather, held double. I cast on 10 sts and worked a piece in garter st twice as long as wide, and then hand felted it to be a dense as possible. I cut the circles from this fabric and sewed them in place.

Used double knitting to make the ears so there was stockinette on both sides of the fabric.

Made a 3-st icord to tie in a festive red bow around the neck. Tacked this into place and to secure the bow knot.
