I started this during an extended power outage and didn’t have access to the pattern. I understood the concept but had to make my own way into the project. Therefore it’s my variation on a theme.

Cable Cast On with a triple strand of Southampton (Navajo plying) to 30 sts and then continued with a single strand for several rows.

Knitting it all in Garter St.

When adding the contrasting yarn I carried the Southampton along with it. Cutting the contrasting yarn at the end of row rather than carrying it up the side. Will decide how to deal with the ends once I’ve finished the knitting.

Repeating the contrasting yarn rows at random intervals, anywhere from 3rd row to 6th row from previous contrasting row, as the whim strikes me

This is a drop dead easy project--very nearly instant gratification. The challenge for me is managing my clunky, heavy needles with such light yarn. I have to take my time and support the right needle with the fingers of my left hand as I make each stitch. Not difficult but takes some patience.

I’m not planning to block this because I rather like the look as is.
