Cast on and working garter st yoke with smaller needle. Am doing this because so many have commented they wished they had worked this part with smaller needles. Using kfb as increase method throughout.
I have sometimes been confused by her notation or by the layout of the text and misinterpreted her directions. The pattern itself is NOT poorly written but the sections for “this size only” are not as obviously demarcated as I think they could be and I have, therefore, gone astray a couple of times. For example, just before separating the body from the sleeves I found myself morphing from a stitch count for a medium to the stitch count for a large. Careful reading of the pattern would have prevented this but a different notation or layout would have made her intentions clearer for me. In the end, the large may well be better because I also find my gauge to be a bit tighter after the garter st yoke.
Shifting to the sleeves before I finish the torso because I want to make sure I have enough yarn. Needing to lengthen the sleeves by several inches because her arms are long! I knitted the cuffs with the smaller needles and even decreased the stitch count by six sts on the last stockinette round prior to beginning the cuffs. I worked twice as many rounds for the cuff so she could either fold them back or extend them over her fingers. Bound off in a semi-solid orange using a 3 stitch icord and the larger needles.
Bigger buttons mean a wider front band and collar. Button Bands are 24 rows of garter st with 2.75 mm needle. 1.5” (38 mm) buttons need an 8 St, One Row Buttonhole. A few friends have asked how I work these buttonholes. Here is a post where I describe the process I learned from other knitters more experienced than me. I have tweaked it, however, to further tidy up the hole and this is also described in the post. Button source is here. Someone else asked how I worked the short rows; I used the double-stitch/German short row method. Me no likey wrap & turn…
Icord edging goes all the way around -- bottom edge too.
