Betty Grable, the quintessential Pin Up Girl, stars in the film noir, “Hot Spot.” In some markets, the film was released under the title, “I Wake Up Screaming,” the title of the book by Steve Fisher upon which the film was based. The yarn’s colorway inspired this project name. ;)
My Modifications and Notes:
- Italian Tubular Cast On to 72 sts with two short US 1.5 circs
- This yarn is loosely plied and twisted sts will be a PITA so I’m using a Fascine Braid instead--basically substituting SKYP sts for the twisted sts.
- Started heel flap increases (32 sts total) at 4” from cast on edge
- Used a rounded toe (Socks for the Deputy Head Mistress)
Interesting pooling happening here with the gray spiraling down the leg.
In the end, I have decided the Strong Heel, nifty as it is to make, isn’t the best heel for my own socks because of the bunching that happens at the top of the foot at the hinge/ankle, even when the foot isn’t flexed upward. See 7th photo from the top. All this extra fabric yields positive ease that allows the mushy-feeling sock to twist on my foot when worn. I tend to have a similar issue with the Fleegle Heel. This pair is a gift so I’m hoping my friend won’t have the same problem.
My friend, Diana, saw me working on these and said how cool she thought the yarn looked all knitted up into a sock. “Sold!” I said to myself. I love it when a sock project has a larger purpose. Yay!
