I adore this pattern and made only the tiniest of tweaks.

  • Knitted the Shelter on US7 to get gauge. All of the ribbing was worked on the 7s, as well.

  • Matching my favorite cardigan, worked body to 13” before dividing for front and back; sleeves are 19” long.

  • Only did minimal waist shaping: one decrease on 21st pattern row and one increase on 41st.

  • For the sleeves, I cast on 40 sts and increased to 44 at the end of (3”) ribbing

  • Picked up 79 sts for the left button band — 2 stitches per 3 rows. Didn’t like that there were only 2 knits at the top of that band (since that only leaves one once you pick up for the neck) so picked up an additional stitch at the top of the right band. (Making sure the first 79 sts aligned with the ones on the opposite band.)

  • Worked 10 rows for the button bands instead of 8.

  • Did 7 buttonholes instead of 6 — 2yo buttonholes, worked on the 4th/5th rows; worked into the hole on the 6th row. 20mm horn buttons from Fringe Supply Co.

  • Picked up 102 sts for the neck, worked 9 rows before BO. (Note that the neck numbers given in the pattern are incorrect: needs to be a multiple of 4, plus 2.)

Only used 7.5 skeins of yarn!
