Notes

Very pleased to have knitted this Alice Starmore gansey. Being a pattern from the 80’s it is quite wide so made adjustments for a narrower sweater.

The nicest thing about a gansey is that they are made in one piece so no sewing! This one however, due to the lined henley did have some sewing but given the good instructions, was not too difficult and gives the final garment a nice touch.

Ben wanted this in cream and as he is such a dirty devil I decided to use a matt cotton acrylic blend to throw in the washer but wool would obviously be much nicer, especially for the finishing of the neck line and button bands…..cotton looks a bit clumsie….even so, I am extremely happy with it.

I would definitely make this again using wool and a silk blend for the linings as per pattern.

p.s. hard to find the pattern…I had to buy a second hand book on internet so ended up paying more for the pattern than the yarn!!
