I gave Vintage Baby Knits to KnittingLiberal for her baby shower last spring and said I would knit the item of her choice out of it. She asked me to make this little dress for Alazne’s first birthday party.

Since I wanted to size it up a little (so Laz doesn’t grow out of it too quickly) so I used Louet Gems Sport instead of the Fingering. But then my gauge was too big, so I removed one repeat of the frost flower lace pattern from the front and back of the skirt. This gave me the perfect size (slightly larger than the pattern is written for).

I also worked in the round up to the top of the skirt, put it all on scrap yarn and blocked the skirt aggressively. The pattern has you block the completed pieces after the bodice is done, but says to only block the skirt part. I was not sure how this could be done, so I blocked the skirt before starting the bodice. After blocking, I put it back on the needles and worked the bodice to the armpits. I did not start the back opening/button bands until I had split for the armpits. Because my stitch count was off I did a little tweaking in the neck and shoulder shaping (left out a few rows basically) and again on the sleeve shaping.
