My Laurelhurst variation, with horizontally-striped heel.

Although is is quite a simple pattern, I set it up in KnitCompanion (iOS) so I could easily keep track of the different sections. It really made the lace pattern a breeze, too, since I never had to figure out where I was!

To prevent the slipped column from being too tight:

“add a YO after each stitch that will be slipped on the next row, then drop it on that next row”

That gives your slipped stitch the height it needs to span the two rows of the other color.

Leg: 16 CC stripes
Heel -- 2-row horizontal stripes, 30 rows.
After turning, cut yarn and start fresh at the side. Pick up a stitch from every other row of heel flap (I got 16 each side)

gusset -- four rounds plain, then dec EOR

22 CC stripes, then toe
