Notes

A guildmate asked me to recreate a favorite hat that he lost. He chose three colors of Wool of the Andes from knitpicks and had them shipped to me. His original hat was made in some kind of textured stitch, so I used the waffle stitch pattern from the IK “Syrup Pullover” except I had to purl the even rows for knitting in the round.

Finished hat weighs 58 grams, and is very stretchy.

CO 60 st
2 rounds k1p1 rib

Waffle stitch (doesn’t look like waffle to me, more honeycomb-ish)

round 1: K1, k1below (you stab your needle through the stitch below the stitch on the needle and knit them together) around

round 2: p1, p2tog-below (grab that extra loop of yarn and purl it together with the stitch on the needle) around

round 3: k1below k1 around

round 4: p2tog-below, p1 around

Decreases for the top of the hat at 6 points every 6 rounds: sl2 aitk, k1, ps2slst over, then I wove the last 12 st tog.
