Pro-tip: use a provisional cast-on, then K the CO sts together with the live sts in an extra plain round before the decrease round. Ta-da, no sewing afterwards.

And don’t cast off at the end -- just cut the yarn and thread a needle and catch each live stitch together with a loop on the inside of the knitting. Nice and flexible.
