Notes

I started this project in bedspread weight (size 10) and ran out. Figured that the original was probably done in finer thread, so went with the Size 30 thread (left over from another project) and a Size 10 “Boye” steel hook.

Looks like there is an error in round 39, but the featured photos helped a lot.

5 June 2011 - the first 500 yard ball of thread lasted until about 3/4 of the way through round 49 (double crochets around rings).

9 June 2011 - on round 59

11 June 2011 - finished last (#60) round, about 21 inches diameter. Still need to darn in ends, wash and block doily.

18 June 2011 - doily is washed and pinned to block - 23 inches across. Two Coats Big Ball Size 30 was enough the finish the doily with plenty left over.

It is pretty, but the bands of patterns seem unrelated, so sort of a miscellaneous design. Also has lots of prime numbers -- like on round 37 there are 41 repeats of a 13 stitch pattern.

There is one place where you need to increase two stitches in a round, but unlike some other Corticelli patterns, you don’t need to fudge stitches to have it come out right. Perhaps this was done when the pattern was re-published?

Anyway, try making this in a finer thread, it came out nice.

3 July 2011 - finally took photos and uploaded. First photo is the blocked doily on a patio table over a dark cloth.
