Notes

Six balls of this lovely yarn was gifted to me via Freecycle. This is my first use of two of them. It’s my own pattern - a combination of a hat and a cowl. So I’m calling it a “Howl”.

There have been so many “messy bun” hats on Ravelry lately. This is my version. The pattern is free in my Ravelry store. Enjoy!

Please note that Ravelry is categorizing this yarn as “Aran (?)” weight. In fact, the Noro Silk Garden strands vary from thin to thick, making it hard to assign a weight. My personal opinion is that worsted and aran weight yarns are not appropriate for this design which requires a more drapey fabric. Therefore, if you are not using Noro Silk Garden or equivalent type yarn, I suggest using DK or even sport weight for this project to achieve the effect shown in my photos.

My knitted picot edge binding is done very much as in this video tutorial. See pattern for exception which excludes the yarnovers.
