This is my 3rd backpack for our charity drive at work. These are for grammar school age kids (kindergarten to 8th grade). This is my largest one so far. I was totally winging it, and did this in about 3 days of commuting.

First photo shows the top open. Second photo is with the drawstring pulled in. There’s also one button at the top to use, if desired. I was in a huge hurry to get this done, so there are things that I’d change/add if not under the gun. I had planned to add a pocket as a bib on the coveralls. Ran out of blue yarn as well as time. Although not really necessary, I had also planned to line the inside with fabric. But I think he turned out cute anyway.

Normally I’d attach the straps on the other side near the bottom. But I wanted these to look like straps on his coveralls. It works just fine with a backpack this size. I added a sequin to each eye for a little twinkle.

WIP photo at top is me knitting the 3-stitch I-cord drawstring(8/10/16). My hat makes an excellent yarn bowl. I got it done by our deadline of 8/11/16.
