These mitts match the Picos Hat that I just finished - designed by Belen Fernandez. The intarsia method employed here is akin to working five stripes similar to i-cord with pre-cut lengths of yarn. It’s quite clever and easy to do.

I started out with my favorite tubular cast-on menthod demonstrated here by Suzanne Bryan.

Tubular bind-off recommended in the pattern (after 2 set-up rounds)

Contrasting color (CC) yarn lengths required for EACH mitt:

Thread/Stripe 1: 91” (231 cm)
Thread/Stripe 2: 83” (211 cm)
Thread/Stripe 3: 75” (191 cm)
Thread/Stripe 4: 61” (155 cm)
Thread/Stripe 5: 50” (127 cm)

So 20 yards (18.3 meters) of CC yarn is required for both mitts.

I had 1.1 oz. of the main color (MC) yarn left after completing both the hat and the mitts. So I used 2.43 oz (318 yards/291 meters) of MC for both the hat and the mitts.

1.5 oz (196.3 yards/179.5 meters) of MC required for just the mitts.
