Notes

This is my first test for the talented Jamie Hoffman (Knitosophy on Ravelry). The pattern includes many sizes from infant through adult. Jamie has covered all the bases.

I’m knitting this to go with the Allouette Baby Cardigan that I made a couple of months ago for a baby girl. This beret turned out really cute. The pattern is so well written.

The pattern calls for fingering weight yarn. I only had sport weight available and it worked out just fine. It’s very important to cast on the correct number of stitches that will give you a ribbed band that is 4.5” - 5” less than the head circumference. In other words, you need to start with a lot of negative ease. (You may need to choose a smaller size than normal to achieve this.) From then on, your row gauge doesn’t matter all that much because the pattern tells you to knit a certain DISTANCE between increasing or decreasing rather than specifying the number of rows to knit.’’ So after you cast on the proper number of stitches, just follow the length recommendations for whatever age you are knitting for.

I accidentally did normal 1 x 1 ribbing rather than twisted rib. I just wasn’t paying close enough attention when reading the pattern. Regular ribbing works just as well though.

I highly recommend this pattern. It’s a very quick, fun project. I’m sure I’ll be knitting more in the future - possibly even one for myself.
