This sweet little dress is knit from the bottom up using fingering weight yarn. I used only the red parts of the Kroy sock yarn and picked out all the tweedy bits from the Knit Picks Stroll Tweed yarn. (Trying to use stash on hand.) I made the hemline different than the pattern.
Provisionally cast on 64 sts (2 less than pattern specified) because I knit the first 13 chart rows in the round. Knit the first 5 rows in stockinette. Then did the picot hem edge round:
^(K2tog, YO), repeat from ^ around
Continue in stockinette following Julie’s chart from the bottom up.
After the first 13 rounds of the chart, I switched to flat knitting so that the tail could poke out and to allow for back closure. If desired, add back the two stitches once you start knitting flat (though I didn’t). For the flat section, I slipped the first stitch of every row purlwise to make a nice edge along each side.
To finish the hem, I turned under along the picot edge and secured each stitch with sewing thread underneath. This makes a very nice, flat hem without the bulk of extra yarn. The garter stitch hem design in the pattern rolls up when using wool yarn. The picot edge is a bit more work, but cuter and doesn’t roll at all. I did the same thing for the sleeves. This requires breaking the yarn for each sleeve, knitting the small hem part and then putting the 10 sleeve stitches back on the main needle. A photo at left shows the “hem” part of the sleeve sticking up with the top edge the provisional cast-on.
The collar is a free pattern from Julie and may be downloaded here:

I made the knitted version of the collar, but I crocheted around the outer edge and used a crochet hook to attach it to the neck edge of the dress. I crocheted around the back opening before closing with 3 small snaps. Thanks for all the darling patterns, Julie!!!
