I’m making some modifications to this pattern. I want the little fella who is receiving it to be able to wear it for 2 years possibly. He’s fairly petite, so I’m adding about 2 inches in length only to the body after the ribbing before the armhole shaping. I’m also knitting it in the round to the armhole shaping, then I will work the back and front separately.

I think I’d like the shoulders to be a bit narrower, so I will work additional decreases, and I’ll aim for about a 4.5 inch armhole opening. When the front and back are worked, I will work the sleeves from the top down, using short rows for the shoulder shaping.

Armhole shaping: BO 2 at beginning of 2 rows twice, then did the decrease row once. Worked stockinette for 17 rows after that.

Shoulder shaping: BO 3 on next RS row, join second ball and BO center 22 sts, knit till end. BO 3 sts at beg of WS row. Next RS row, BO 2 sts, knit to end of first side, BO 2 sts, knit to end. On WS row, BO 2 sts, purl to end of first side, BO 2 sts, purl to end. BO remaining stitches.

I made no changes to the hood. For the ribbing I just picked up the number of stitches that seemed correct and decreased beside the center knitted stitch.

For the ears, my only change was to make them 2 rows shorter than specified in the pattern, to make them look more like fox ears.
