Notes

DO NOT DO A PROVISIONAL CO. You need the stability for the edging from a picked up edge.
For the steeks- when doing the crochet stabilization, DO NOT DO THEM on half of 3 and half of 5 make it so you have an ENTIRE stitch in between so this way it won’t pull out when you pick up your stitches! In the past, we always have a whole stitch we cut when we do steeks. I have finished my fair share of fair isle sweaters in a variety of yarns and have never had a problem… even on superwash yarns till this one. I had a really nasty mess on this where I literally lost sleep over it! I consulted with a college and we agreed that we have never cut a steek without an entire stitch to cut.

Lets talk about row gauge calculations…. when I did mine, I inserted the sleeve steeks on the final row of chart 2, and my sweater will be done on row 12 (I think off the top of my head) on my 3rd time on chart 2.
When you do your own row calculations, I used what I had knit so far and then figured out per inch, and then multiplied it by her desired length once converted to inches. Gives me a better visual.

Sadly I have to stop knitting this for various samples, some with deadlines!! ICK! All I want to do is knit EVERYTHING from Shetland after this but really should finish the 30 odd rows from club 2 and the border. Needed to take my club 1 blanket home from work since it is finally cold!

YES I am weaving in my ends all on one side. Two schools of thought on that but I like to be on the safe side so I don’t weave in through the steeks- but I also do not use a machine sewn steek ever.

Sleeve steeks are driving me nuts b/c they interrupt my flow big time!!
also swapped in fog for thistledown in chart 2…

so… also love the similar version of this in Marie’s new book “Shetland”. We will have kits for the Shetland book by 11/15/17!!!

This sweater is going SO FAST OMG (then again… I am still on the final section of Club II blanket which was 500 sts rows and a motif that can’t be memorized…).

2 things: a 24” needle would be fine, or a 32”. I did the 40” and it was a bit of a pain….
on rows 28 and 29 (I think) I had to substitute camel in for thistledown… when I had it with bramble it was AWFUL aka no contrast at all.
I am sooo enjoying the knitting of this… I also seem to have lost a steek stitch some where in the beginning but didn’t realize till almost done with chart one. I’m glad marie is showing the crocheted steek… so wonderful (and easier than getting out my sewing machine!!).

. I have cut MANY steeks for customers on traditional Dale of Norway sweaters, and Jamieson Sweaters and we always just cut up one stitch. It is quick, and you have more “wiggle room” so the stitches don’t pull out. Honestly, I learned a lesson here the hard way and i’m a little upset…

As predicted I have stopped knitting on this at the sleeve juncture. I can’t tell if a sleeve seam will drive me insane or not… or i’m contemplating starting at the bottom and setting the sleeve in…

okay so went ahead and picked up for the sleeves. ended up picking up just about one st per row. I added 2 extra stitches and am knitting back and fourth. these sleeves are pretty little and going really quickly.
Measured my unblocked sweater today and without stretching it, I need 4 more horizontal inches, and 4 more vertical inches…. plan to knit yell next from Shetland and think I will do a larger size, so it is more oversized the way I like things now. I am confidant however, that I can block this to finished measurements, and the fabric looks and feels good.

I substituted oxford for shaela on the lapel charts, and for the borders. I wanted a darker shade of gray. Also, on chart A I used fog instead of damask, and oxford instead of shaela. On the body, I left everything as stated. These photos on kate are of an unblocked sweater. I am sure I can get some serious length out of it. It fits like the photo, but id like bigger by a few inches. Also, on the border, I think either you need to pick up 3 out of 4 on the fronts, or use a US 1 ndl b/c I was getting a bit of a flair. Same on the bottom but I think that is b/c I need more rows I think… possibly would do a few more. I don’t know if I need a ribbon facing.. or I will hand sew some of our hand painted Bias cut ribbon we carry… not sure….
