I really loved this little project! I used my leftover Miski for the ribbing because I just didn’t have enough with my single skein of Malabrigo Chunky. Truthfully, I didn’t even have enough to do the full pattern with the single skein. I weighed it and it was only 94 grams, so I know it was a few yards short, but I still had to make it less slouchy. That made me sad - I really do want a really slouchy cap. Maybe the next one.

My forced modifications were to only do 3” of P4, K1 ribbing, and I had to not do all 3 rounds between decreases. I usually did 2 rounds between. I also used the scraps that tied the Mal together and wove them through the beginning of the ribbing to tighten it up a bit, it was a little loose.

The smocking really did tighten everything up, and I think it just looks lovely! It was a little bit a chore to do it. If I did this again, I might just cable cross at those identified stitches…although I’m not sure that would tighten things enough.

I loved the Mal Chunky and would TOTALLY do it again! It’s a fantastic base.
