Notes

3/21 - And so we begin.

By we, I mean Jen and myself. We’ve been saying for ages now that we both wanted to do Catkin and wouldn’t it be a blast to both start it at the same time and then be actually having a KAL between the two of us? So today was starting day. I woke up at 8 to discover that Jen had texted me one word - Go! And so, on my lunch break, I went.

Of course, I did not go darkly into that good night without making a stupid mistake. I did the provisional cast on with scrap yarn, knit a bit with Yarn A, picked up the stitches, etc. Did all the way down to where you add on your first stripe. Then I looked ahead in the pattern for some reason - there was an instruction that was confusing me which I can’t recall now. It probably had something to do with trying to follow the pattern on my phone which has a small screen, making it hard to focus on a whole pattern. That was when it happened - I cursed for the first time while working on this project.

It had to happen at some point, right?

I had been using Colour A, mistakenly believing that A symbolized the letter for the colour you would use most in the pattern, as in the main chevron body. Nope. Colour A is the opposite of that. I suppose that makes sense in retrospect, since you can work the first section either in stripes OR in just one solid colour, then you move on to the chevron section. Thinking about it, I decided that I had been pretty stupid to make that mistake in the first place and it would only be fair to declare my level of stupidity to Jen, since she had taken on this venture with me. Plus, I didn’t want her to get all cocky and think she was better than me by coming back from Boston with a fully finished shawl while I would still be in the cast-on stage.

This was when Jen proved that she is stupid in the same way as I am and just as honest because she admitted that not only had she made that same mistake and had to start over, she had also failed to notice the increases on row 11 and had to rip back. (Hey, at least I read that one correctly!) And so, we’re off to a staggering start on this one :o)

3/25/12 - Dear God in Heaven and Goddesses on Earth - please oh please let me not have lost my bag of knitting. Please oh please let me have simply misplaced it somewhere where I will find it very soon. Little little Catkin, I’m dearly worried about you - come home to me.

3/30/12 - Alright, I’m calling it. This project is lost. I had it with me on the day I cast on. I took it in to Advice Night. I carried it outside when Michelle and I were talking, and then had it right next to me during the Larkin Approach and petting Megan’s head and doing the Weekly Wednesday check-in that Robin and I seem to have started. And after that…well after that, I seem to have lost track of it. I can’t believe - CAN’T BE-LIEVE - that I lost it. That’s what must have happened though…so I’m declaring this project lost and gone. I am so tempted to go out and buy this yarn all over again but seriously? My stash is huge. I’m going to go shopping in my stash instead.

Poor little lost Catkin…I can only pray that a knitter found you and is putting Linda’s yarn to good use.
