Notes

Mom’s green hat - 32 grams red
Blue hat -
Well now I’m confused. I think I might have used 18 grams of red on mom’s hat initially, and that when I said 32 grams I meant 32 left.
That would mean I used 20 on the hat, which I think is probably about right. I’ll know more for sure when I weigh the other ball of Louet. At the end of the blue hat, the scale told me there were 11 grams of red remaining.
Cowl - plus 7 grams
CO 150 sts, Zig-zag at bottom
1 round K w/ MC, inc every 16 stitches (160 stitches)
Starry stars
1 round K w/MC, inc every 17 stitches (170 stitches)

1/23/12 - I’ve picked this up and started again, mostly because I’ve run out of other WIPs to work on and also because I promised Mom that as soon as I finished that pink sweater, I would return to her hat. She didn’t believe me, so this will be my chance to shower her that I meant it. It’s just such fine, delicate work, trying to do colourwork that has runs that long with such lightweight yarn. I know it will get easier as the hat gets longer because there will be more of the design to work in, so the red will be carried more. This is my own design, and it certainly taught me something about colourwork and the way it should be laid out to make it work well.

I really just want this to be done. I want to go back to working on my mittens and some other projects. I think that if I can get some good chunks of it done each day, it could be finished within a few weeks. I’ll probably pick up and finish the too-small one that I originally made for her as well, just to have a FO that I can pass along to someone at some point.

I kind of miss working on that pink sweater of mine. I have it blocking on the floor right now, to see if the collar will resolve itself or if I’ll have to come up with a Plan B for it.

I bumped up to a size 3 needle for this. I hate doing magic loop and wish that I had a short size 3 needle to use with it, but I don’t and there are just too many stitches for DPNs. The hat was just so small still, I think because the yarns are too lightweight. In my opinion, the Yummee Yarn is more of a regular fingering weight while the Louet is DEFINITELY a light fingering. I think that it will fit much better on the bigger needle size. I hope so because I do NOT want to have to remake it any more!
