Notes

9/21/09 - I love Noro - absolutely adore Noro - and Silk Garden is one of my favourite bases in the world. I went to an LYS near me that’s shutting down yesterday and it was all I could do not to buy every skein of Silk Garden they had left. I had to work hard to remind myself that I have a bunch of it already and that most of it doesn’t even know what it wants to be yet.

But these two skeins did. I’ve known for some time that I wanted to make gauntlets out of them and I put this pattern in my queue when I first joined Ravelry for that very reason. I realized when I was casting on this afternoon that the dye lots are different letters (D and E) so I’m guessing there will be some variation. This might be a little difficult for me since I’m the type of knitter that likes to match up the stripes on her socks exactly, but I’m sure I’ll learn to manage…somehow.

I’ve named this project “Industrial Sunset” because the colours in these skeins of Noro remind me of those sunsets you see in cities with lots of pollution - gorgeous pinks and umbers and oranges that should be as intense as they are but are that way because of the junk that’s floating in the air. At least we get that piece of beauty from our harm the environment and really, those are some of the greatest sunsets I’ve ever seen.

10/2/09 - Thank God these are finished! Cleveland is in the middle of the cold snap that just won’t end. They are, of course, incredibly warm. Unfortunately, they’re also a tad itchy on my pulse points - when will I accept that Silk Garden is not an “against the skin” sort of yarn? Still, I love them and now that they’re completed and I’m wearing them, I feel about 10 degrees warmer.
