Notes

This is a pattern that I had rattling around in my head for a long, long time. In fact, I’ve been drawing these leaves over and over again since my youth. I am planning to write up and publish this pattern.

The name I’ve come to is an ode to the Meliae. In Greek mythology, the Meliae were nymphs of the ash tree, whose name they shared. The sisterhood’s nature was to appear collectively. They are invoked in the plural, although some myths do give them individual names. However, it is believed that these names are of secondary importance to their enmeshed nature. I thought their name went perfectly with the pattern and the way the leaves entwine together.

This pattern is still being worked out - I consider this a rather rough draft of it since certain parts of it, in particular the thumbs, were not up to my standards.
