On the radio
We heard, ‘November Rain’
That solo’s really long
But it’s a pretty song
We listened to it twice
’Case the DJ was asleep

Today I was walking home from work and kicking myself that I hadn’t brought my fingerless mitts along. It was drizzling and chilly and just that kind of damp that sinks into your bones. When I got home, I realized that I really didn’t want to work on any of my current projects. I wanted to work with something soft, something that would warm me up. Something to wear the next time it was raining.
I’m tempted to do what I did yesterday and just stay up working on this project till it’s done since it’s small. We’ll see - this is the first time that I’m doing the Magic Loop two-at-a-time method and I have to say, right now I’m finding it more frustrating than helpful. I feel like I constantly am stopping to adjust the cable which is frustrating when I just want to go go go!
Finished! Finished and they’re wonderful :o) I had to make some edits because I have small chicken arms and teeny carny hands. So, here are my edits - I did 5 Nutkin pattern repeats before starting the thumb gusset. The reason for this is that the cuff, while beautiful, was too big and belled out around my aforementioned chicken arms. I don’t like things to bell. I like them to fit perfectly. If I had to do it over again, I would go down two needles sizes or maybe cast on fewer stitches. But I think going down would be good enough.
The reason that I decided to do this project two-at-a-time with the magic loop method is that I knew there was a finite amount of yarn. Now that it’s finished, I’m guessing that there were only about 150-170 yards or so. So I knew that when it was done, it was going to have to be done. I only did 18 stitches for the thumbs so they wouldn’t be loose (and to save some yarn), and I tried to fit in as many Nutkin repeats after the thumb gusset, but I could only manage two. However, since I have small hands and didn’t want the gloves to come too far up my fingers and get in the way, this worked out fine! I would have finished last night but I ran out of my yarn sooner than expected and had to rip back and make a few edits.
To start with, I went down to a size 0 for the cuff around the fingers. I initially did it on my size 2s but, again, it belled out and I do not like belling! The size 0 made things fit perfectly. I had to use a different yarn for the stockinette stitch after the purl row because I wanted to use as much of the pretty hand painted yarn as possible in visible places. Instead of just folding the stockinette over sewing it down, I decided to pick up stitches inside the glove so that it would have that nice break in it, like at the bottom of the glove. Time consuming and anal, I know, but that’s how I am! They’re finished, they fit perfectly, and I love them!
