7/9/09 - Okay, so I’m bad and casting on a new project in July. I know, I know I’m not supposed to! I have so many other projects that I just need to finish! However, this is Maria’s late birthday present and since I’m going up to visit her in a few weeks, I really need to make this! I’m not sure about this yarn for this project…I’ve been wanting to make this for her for a few months, but I’m just afraid it’ll be a little dull. I figure that I’ll keep working on it for awhile and make a decision later.

Yeah, I totally changed my mind about this project. Instead of the Montego Bay, I’m now doing the Party Lace Scarf. I am so much happier with this that I actually changed the smiley face from just happy to exuberant! I think this looks much prettier and that she’ll really like it. It’s like a princess scarf. I’m also using some really sparkley diamond beads that I’ve had since I was about 10 and have always wanted to use for something. They really make the perfect touch and since Maria is a bling girl, I’m sure she’ll like it too!

July 14th - Done! It’s 2 AM and I’m finished now (so technically it’s the 15th). I thought I’d be done hours ago - I always forget how long it takes to actually finish an object. I sewed down the rhinestones so that they won’t flip around. The bind off was an issue - it’s not as lacey and open as the cast on was, and there’s no way I could get it to scallop properly. I’m hoping that blocking will help me to fix that. I also tacked down the corners on the bind off because they were just sticking out and dragging the whole piece down. So proof to myself - if I work hard at it, I can finish a lovely little lace scarf in under a week.

7/21/09 - I visited Maria over the weekend. She put on the scarf as soon as I gave it to her, then decided to try it on the dogs. She claims that it is the perfect size for Baby and, therefore, should be the dog’s scarf because it looks cuter on Baby than it does on her.
Definitely off the list.
