Notes

7/8 - Well, it’s officialy - I definitely have Starting Syndrome. This is my third project that I’m casting on in a week, and I have a bunch more that I’m eager to start. I’ve been wanting to start this forever and even just winding up the thread was a delicious experience.

There’s a great description of a Double Overhand Knot here and a helpful YouTube video here. I was a little perplexed by the make 9 out of 1 increase that you do at the very beginning only because I couldn’t find it. I’m not really sure why it wasn’t the first stitch instruction given, since you need it right away, but my eyes just skipped right past it on the page. In any case, I’m one chart repeat into it (and almost halfway through Season 2 rewatch of LOST with Kristin!) and loving it.

4/29 - Well, I did all 10 chart repeats and thought I was going to finish tonight. The problem? I’ve only used up half the skein! While I know that I could make this a smaller shawlette, I’m not sure that’s what I want it to be. I’m going to meditate on it tonight and then decide - but clearly, this pattern doesn’t require more than a few hundred yards! It’s great for those tiny skeins or leftovers from bigger projects that you just don’t know what to do with.

4/29 - DONE! One more project finished in April :o) I decided to bind this one off because I think that I’ll make a second one. One of them will be for me, and the other will be for Pam. Pam is the amazing secretary at Bellefaire who replaced our old dragon lady secretary. She used to work with my cousin, Lanie, and she’s absolutely fantastic. She’s one of the few people that I can have a great conversation with every time we talk. But the real thing I love about her? She ADORES handknits. She raves every time she sees me wearing anything that I might have made and has said many many many times that she would love to have something - ANYTHING - that I’ve made. There’s this huge part of me that would LOVE to surprise her with something that I’ve made that’s beyond wonderful, and I think this little shawl is it. I think it would be fun to make a second one and try to make it a little different - look at how this one blocks out and go from there. For now, I’ll say that this one is for me but I think after I make the second one, I’ll figure out which one is the gift for her.
