Notes

Using the yarn frogged from Matt’s first Patrick. This pattern is more appropriate to the gauge.

Yay color! Matt like neutrals, so buying this yarn for him was a bit of a risk. Then I used it for a sweater that didn’t work. The pattern was horribly written, yarn was slightly too heavy and there was some fitting issues: sweater was never worn. He does love the yarn so I frogged the sweater and looked for something with a bit heavier gauge. This pattern fit the bill.

This is the 2 ply fisherman weight from Beaverslide (they now have this weight in a 3 ply) and having some slight issues with breakage (uh… duh: it’s a softly spun yarn that was knitted, blocked then frogged; so I’m not surprised). Just need to be careful about tugging too hard (especially on the knit to purl sections, where I naturally want to tug hard to avoid the ladders).

So far I’m really enjoying the knitting. The wide rib is interesting to knit, yet easy. Perfect traveling knitting (which is why I cast it on!)

Update 5/11/2013: front and back are done… onto the sleeves. As warmer weather approaches, I’m more inspired to work on this (ya, cause nothing screams “summer project” than an aran weight wool/mohair blend!). I have to say that I love this pattern. If the fit is good, I’ll probably knit it again!

Update 9/11/2013: obviously this didn’t get a lot of progress over the summer (ya, wool/mohair plus summer heat!). Just finished the first sleeve and seeing the finish line on this one!

Update 9/15/2013: second sleeve done (unusually fast for a second sleeve). Just need to block, seam, then knit the placket and collar!

Update 9/18/2013: seaming!!! Will be done today (sans final blocking/steaming). Update of Update: all seaming done. all ends woven in. left to do: steam/block. buttons. photographs. Update of the Previous Update: did a quick try on test on Matt and this is going to get a huge thumbs up! Perfect fit! I did do a steam block, then ended up doing a wet block (which was worthless, but now I gotta wait for it to dry then I’ll have to re-steam it). Buttons have been chosen and yarn was discussed for the next one: ya, he loves it!

Update 09/20/1013: Done and Loved! It’s warm, it fits and I will be making this pattern again.

Mods:

  • reversed the knit/purl sections on the front.

  • shortened the neck band by 1”, made only 3 buttonholes.

  • did st. st. selvedge stitch and seamed 1/2 stitch, making the seams a lot less bulky
