Notes

Christmas socks for Granny! The transition from foot to leg created a tight line across the instep. I think it will block out enough to be comfortable. Fingers crossed!

74 sts (divided by 2 is 37, an odd number, so it should work as per instructions on page 5).

Toe: 2.25 mm (because that’s what I had while I was away from home and decided to start these — if too tight, I may switch to 2.5 mm for foot and leg).
Update: Nope, I don’t like the toe — the shape or the fit. After working past the afterthought heel a few rnds, then building the heel to make sure I’ll have enough yarn, I tried on the sock and didn’t like the fit. So I reworked the heel with a bit more length, but I knew before and knew even stronger then that the toe had to go. Surgery time! I snipped and removed the toe and reworked it the same as the heel. Better shape for my foot and, I think, Granny’s. 16 rnds plain before decs; dec to 72 sts at rnd 15.

Insert waste yarn at 2.5” less than total foot length desired.

After inserting waste yarn and slipping stitches back to left needle, SWITCH TO 2.5 MM and continue with the 8th rnd of the st patt and inc 6 sts as follows: (p1, k3) across until 5 sts before 1/2way (before the back of the leg), p1, k2, kfb (1 st inc’d — the bump replaces the p), k3, p1, k2, kfb (2nd inc), (k3, p1) twice, k2, kfb (3rd st inc’d), (k3, p1) twice, k2, kfb (4th inc), k3, p1, k2, kfb (5th inc), k2, kfb (6th inc — shifts the p bump at beg of rnd). Not entirely uniform, but it should do!

Continue leg.

K1p1 ribbing (2.25 mm?). JSSBO with 2.75 mm.

Afterthought heel: thumb-joint hat-top heel (Craftsy class)
Heel — PU 74 sts.
Thumb joint: K 22 rnds. (Dec 2 sts @ rnd 20). 72 sts.
Hat top:
