Notes

Argyle: stranded color pattern 20 from Knitting Stitches VISUAL Dictionary

Ribbing design inspired by Peekaboo Mitts.
Afterthought thumb (similar to Muckle Mitts.

I tried 36 sts but the fair isle was too tight. Since it’s a 12-st rep and 48 sts would be too big with the same 4mm needle, I switched to 3.75 mm needle.

With long-tail CO, CO 40 sts.
Work 2x2 ribbing 20 rnds.
Add 8 sts (m1 every 5th st) on 1st round of fair isle patt (for 48 sts, 4 reps of 12-st patt rep).

2 patt reps, then knit 1st 7 sts of next round onto waste yarn for thumb (as described in Muckle Mitts). Use this to create afterthought thumb.

Then 1 more patt rep before dec rnd (k10, k2tog around, decreasing 4). (44 sts)
Dec 4 more sts on 1st rnd of 2x2 ribbing. (40 sts)
Total 5 rnds ribbing then BO with 4 mm needle.

Thumb:
PU 14 sts (7 on each side of waste yarn), then PU 1 st on each side. Work 2×2 ribbing for 6 rounds. BO with 4 mm needle.
