Notes

These mittens were knit from a pattern in Sylvia Olsen’s new book on Cowichan knitting called Knitting Stories. It’s a lovely book, filled with her personal essays and seven knitting patterns.

The pattern calls for a fingering weight yarn, but I had some Shelter in my stash that I wanted to use. It was easy to make this pattern work for a worsted weight yarn. Instead of casting on 48 stitches I cast on 42. Then on round 27 I decreased by two stitches so the 8 stitch pattern repeat would work. I am a loose knitter, so even though I was using a worsted weight yarn I went down to a 3.5 mm needle.

I’m really happy with the finished mitts! They are a perfect fit!
