#10 Shawl, 2014

10/26:

My Results

This was a super easy, quick well-written knit. Perfect for self-striping yarn. It was neat to see the “boomerang” shape as I was knitting.

Definitely will knit this again, probably in a DK or fingering weight and will add this to my gift knitting pattern library:

  1. Knitted with bulky, instead of worsted/aran yarn. So used US11 needle
  2. Knitted till I had about 9 - 10 yds left of the 3rd skein. So, with 3 skeins: knitted 13 repeats (Row 1 -14) and ended at Row 6 before bindoff.
  3. Followed Susan’s purl bind off and blocking instructions
  4. Measurement

Unblocked

76 in (w - measured from left tip to right tip inner width) x 16 in (h - measured in the middle from inner middle down to the outer corner 90 degree angle)

Blocked (measuring from the same pts as in the unblocked)

85 in (w) x 20 in (h)

Thoughts on Noro

As others stated when it comes to knitting with Noro, I had the usual experiences:

  1. Out of the 3 skeins, I was lucky. Only one had a split.
  2. Had to pick out a few pieces of straw fragments in each of the skeins as I was knitting. But there were no dirt clumps.
  3. The yarn, itself, had some thick and thin sections so I did pay attention with my knitting tension so that I didn’t have any loose stitch gaps.
  4. Very motivated to quickly knit this shawl because I was intrigued to see what the next color change would be.

10/25:

Just about finished knitting. Love, love knitting the colorful soft, warm, fuzzy Noro. DH thinks it’s really cool how the yarn self-stripes, like magic. (See 2nd to the last photo)

10/19:

One of my knitting goals is that I’ve always wanted to knit Noro. Something about the multiple colors and the concept of self-striping has always intrigued me. I saw this bulky yarn at the WEBS booth at Stitches West last Feb calling me from a far, drawing me to “touch me” and when I did a very happy sales transaction happened. I purchased 5 skeins of this soft angora/wool/silk blend with no particular project in mind.

I originally started knitting another pattern, but I didn’t like what I saw after knitting the first 50 yards so I frogged it and found this pattern in my library queue.
