Notes

I used Meg Leach’s “Knitted Finger Puppets” chapter on creating your own characters as inspiration for these, my very 2nd & 3rd finger puppets: a tiny doppelganger of the other of my kitties extraordinaire, Moxie, living her rockstar dreams…and a matching amplifier finger puppet, since Moxie is, as her name suggests, full of the business, and the need to turn everything up to 11!

I am convinced, while I sleep, that she and the other kitty, Jitterbug, raid my musical instrument stash and rock out! (Jitterbug already has her own puppet here: Jitterbug Rocks! )

Many thanks to lovely Lynn (flowerdancer), who thoughtfully enabled my puppet-making mania by giving the book to me (on June 25, hee) as a surprise pressie…..and suggested that the first two should really be Jitterbug & Moxie, along with various musical accoutrements. Lynn’s pup, Amanda, may be the next victi…erm….model ;-P

Yarns used:
Light grey - scraps of Lion Brand Wool-Ease.

Dark grey - scraps of Brown Sheep Lamb’s Pride worsted.

Black - scraps of Dye Dreams Luster Sox

White - scraps of Lion Brand Pound of Love.

Cream - scraps of mystery acrylic worsted (???)

Red - scraps of mystery acrylic worsted (???)

Embroidery threads: pink (nose), cream (ears), green (eyes and stylized brows), red (mouth), gold (guitar strap embellishments), silver (eye highlights, guitar strings, tuner keys, guitar bridge, control plate, endpin button, amp knobs, grill mesh), black (guitar frets, pickup, switch tip), purple (amp jewel).

Construction notes:
Knit body in the round (magic loop); dark grey used for accent striping, just like the real Moxie. A small bit of duplicate stitching for the white “bib” on the body front.

Knit head separately in round (magic loop), also striped, and used tail of bind off to shape ears instead of knitting/attaching new ears. Used thinner yarn for whiskers this time :)

Knit 2 i-cords for arms, beginning with white and switching to dark grey then lighter grey; made the “paw” look by pulling cast on tail of white through body of tube to round and shape the ends.

Guitar is snug to puppet body with strap but easily removable (see pics). Designing the shell pink Telecaster-ish guitar was also a “wing-it” experiment, like Jitterbug’s acoustic guitar. Added more embroidered detail, accurate to a real Tele ;-)

The amplifier puppet is modeled on my Fender Deluxe amp, complete with purple amp jewel light and vintage-style red, curly cord, connecting it to the guitar. Although the guitar is permanently attached to the amp, since the guitar itself is removable from the Moxie finger puppet, it isn’t as limiting as it seems at first glance.
