Pattern is done and posted! Hopefully it’s one that people will enjoy - it’s got a few advanced techniques but it was fun project!
Thanks, everyone, for the encouraging words :)

This was on hold for a looooooong time because I couldn’t figure out the back to my satisfaction. But finally, it’s done and I think it looks great!
Took some pictures, and I think I’ll write up a pattern so stay tuned!

So you can see from the pic the general look of the lace motif (unblocked, of course).
All the flame lace motifs I found were too geometric and predictable, I really wanted a more realistic-looking flame pattern.
The border at the bottom is the sleeve hem.

Settled on a shrug. Flame lace motif has been created, (harder than I though but I’m pretty happy with it) and I’ve started knitting.
If it comes out well, I might write up a pattern and put it up. We’ll see.

Really, this was inspired by the yarn - a gorgeous worsted yarn that’s hand-dyed in reds/oranges/yellows that make it look just like flames. I only have 1 skein, so I’m thinking either a cowl or a shrug, ytbd.
I’ve been looking around for an open lace pattern that looks like flames, but alas, there were no satisfactory ones to be found… so I’ll be making up my own lace pattern. How hard could it be, right? (famous last words)
