Made slight changes only because thinner yarn was used. I also like when the main pattern flows naturally from the ribbing in my hats. Kim is the master when it comes to that.

Mods:

• cast on 78 stitches and knit the ribbing as such - (p2, k3, p1, k3, p1, k3) repeat 6 times;
• knit for about 1”;
• make increases in the following fashion - (p1, yo, p1, k3, p1, k1, k2 from one, k1, p1, k3) repeat 6 times; 12 sts increased, 90 sts total.
• p3 (twist middle yo), k12;
• continue with the pattern, but remember you’ll need to make an additional decrease round in the crown shaping or incorporate 6 sts decrease in one of the existing rounds.

One more thing. If you want to make your increase in the stockinette portion to be almost invisible (see k2 from one), knit that increase stitch into the side of the stitch on the prior row, then knit one. I will try to post a picture so it’s easy to see what I mean.
